The Cats of Wind and River are under a strong alliance formed during the reign of Star's Ashes long ago. This results in freedom of movement and the sharing of prey when one group has more than they need. If they didn't still have two camps and thus two leaders/deputies/medics, then they'd essentially be one massive group.
Windcats often have _'s _ name structures (ex tree's bark, robin's wings) and are often ticked cats. Rivercats often have _ o'_ name structures (ex bush o'holly, pond o'rocks) and are often blotched tabbies. But due to intermingling, these traditions tend to show up in both groups.
After the conquest of the first Cats of Thunder, more anti-outsider cats also moved to the Cats of River. Among many in the group, residents were fine with river and windcats, but hated thundercats and despised shadow and skycats. Things have mellowed out since.

During a late-night border patrol with Daffodil, she crossed paths with the herb-gathering Mallow and Medic Honeybee. Their confrontation led to a fight in which Carp killed Mallow. Then Daffodil was gonna tell so Carp killed Daffodil. Then Carp realized Honey might too so Carp discreetly went to her den and killed Medic Honey...
Her clanmates did actually suspect she'd done it, which was confirmed following an investigation by Medic Meadow. They exiled her in response. Sadly, the war she caused did not stop, and the shadowcats did not believe she was responsible.

Faced with anti-outsider sentiments, though, she moved to the Cats of Wind, where she then found love! She preferred life in the waters, though, so with her mate Rabbit's Grace's encouragement, the two moved back to the Cats of River so her upcoming kits could grow up there. He defended her against xenophobes until they all respected and accepted her!

A social butterfly, Rabbit's Grace loved meeting new members of the group, and later fell in love with the shadowcat Cobra. She'd initially moved to the Cats of River and liked everything about the place except their anti-outsider sentiments. He was thus supportive when she wanted to raise their kits there, so they moved! He was the biggest ally of literally everything cats discriminate against, and would fight anyone who opposed Cobra's place in the group.

She is a very stubbornly determined cat despite her friendly exterior. This has led to her getting into long disputes such as the parking lot border issues with the Cats of Shadow. Her one regret about this was that lives were lost over it. Their fighting would've continued if not for the Cats of Shadow getting into a civil war (and the ghost of Ashy haunting their camp whenever they utter a single thought about restarting it).
She is the oldest cat in the Lake following King Snake's death.

Him being chosen as King was a way for Queen Star's Ashes show her closeness with the rivercats. He served during the Cats of Thunder's collapse and rebirth, taking in refugees from the conflict to sort-of return the favor. Some thought he was too friendly to outsiders, even - many moved to the Cats of River in response.
