THE Markings List

If a breed isn't here, I haven't messed around with it enough to add it. All Petz 4 Breeds, and the German Shepherd, are listed so far. Crushing's breeding guide was an invaluable resource in this guide's creation.

Adoption Center Colors

#1= eye color, #2, eyelid color, rest are coat color slots

Zigzags of two different colors means either can appear. This seems to be randomized per pet. Anything marked is most likely definite between AC pets (i need to check more b&ws tho).

Quick overview on the differences: Marking slots are influenced by marking factors, so can be low%. Coat-tied markings display on a lower layer than other markings and can't be low%, plus they force a certain coat texture (ex all halfies are SUPER fluffy). Dog jowls can only be inherited if a dog has a permitted head and coat from a breed that comes with jowls.

Markings By Breed

BULLDOGS

bulldogs come with gray jowls which uses color slot 5; this cannot mutate, but can be bred to be a different color.

they may also come with a white chest patch tied to marking slot 1.

CHIHUAHUAS

these come in various types of chest, face, and feet markings. face markings are tied to marking slot 2, while the others are tied to marking slot 1.

non-dusty ones can have an always-white face patch, an always-white chest patch, and always-white socks on two or four feet.

dusty ones always come with always-cream chest-patches and always-sandy eyebrows. they cannot come with white chest-patches.

note that sandy ones' eartips will be dusty for some reason.

DACHSHUNDS

the dachshund markings are tied to its coat.

red ones come with mutating-red socks using color slot 2.

brown ones come with mutating-brown socks using color slot 2 and mutating-brown eyebrows using color slot 4.

black ones come with four markings which use two different color slots. their brown socks and tailtip mutate together and use color slot 4. their brown eyebrows and jowls also mutate together and use color slot 2.

their socks go up farther than other socks markings, which makes for great overlap with mutt patches.

DALMATIANS

the always-black dali spots in marking slot 1 are ever-popular. lower % markings decrease the amount of spots visible.

dali markings, in marking slot 2, are also responsible for the black ears - a lower % here will make only one or neither ear show up as black.

GERMAN SHEPHERDS

(guide is written based on reverie's unchanged petz 4 port)

these guys are unique in that their markings cover almost their entire body.

the first guy's coat is actually dusty. the cream is a marking. the black by the nose is a jowl marking while the gray mustache is "normal" and passes on regardless of head type.

german shepherd markings surround the pup in either cream or sandy depending on the parent, with always-gray mustaches that are not jowls. gaps in these markings surround the snout, ears, eyebrows, and body, where their real coat color shows through.

where things get even more interesting is the manifestations of low% german shepherd markings, where more and more coat shows through until only the legs have patches of cream/sandy. parts of the mustache may disappear as well.

ankles and wrists have issues with certain legs, as they may show the original coat even at 100% marking factors. they might also have clipping issues with overlaying markings like dachshund socks.

GREAT DANES

sandy and steel danes come with black jowls using color slot 5; this cannot mutate, but can be bred to be a different color.

similarly, cherry danes come with brown jowls and eyebrows which both also use color slot 5.

however, some cherry danes also come with an always-black snout patch. this passes down more easily than the jowl markings as these patches use marking slot 1.

LABRADORS

I've yet to use a lab for anything so I can't say much. However they don't seem to have any markings. Intron Exon says that sandy ones will pass down coat-color-matching darkened jowls which I assume is coat-linked. It's hard to notice too.

MUTTS

mutts come with 0-7 always-white patches known as mutt patches. they can be positioned anywhere on the body and take up marking slot 1.

they also come with gray jowls using color slot 5; this cannot mutate, but can be bred to be a different color.

their always-brown ears are due to marking slot 2 - this can color one or both ears depending on how many colored ears the parent had.

POODLES

while the poodle markings, which are tied to the coat, look like they'd inherit together, they actually both use different color slots!

their gray colored paws use color slot 2. their gray muzzle uses color slot 5; this cannot mutate, but can be bred to be a different color.

pink-skinned or pink-browed poodles will never pass down their pink colors. they will instead pass down gray colors. oh well

SCOTTIES

linked to the coat, scotties have black socks and eyebrows using color slot 2.

these socks cover very little, so they can easily be covered by other sock markings like mutt patches and chihuahua socks (see keyglyph's snowshoe scotties for an example of the latter!)

SHEEPDOGS

the sheepdog marking is tied to its coat. all sheepdog-marking-bearers will have the same coat texture.

sheepdog markings are known as halfie markings. they come in mutating-gray using color slot 2 and cover the back half of the pup.

sheepdogs with bobtails have the marking fully cover their tail. sheepdogs with long tails do not have their tails fully covered. their children will inherit these variations, regardless of future tail shape.

(note: german shepherd bodies have wierd clipping issues when it comes to halfie markings.)

CHINCHILLA PERSIANS, RUSSIAN BLUES, and PERSIANS

These three have absolutely no markings. Their absence elsewhere on this list is due to this.

ALLEY CATS

alley markings include both always-gray jowls (marking slot 2) and always-cream alley spots (marking slot 1).

BLACK & WHITE SHORTHAIRS

the socks and jowls are linked to the coat. the face patch and tailtip are linked to marking slot 2. the chest patch is linked to marking slot 1.

socks and jowls use different color slots - the jowls use color slot 5, and the socks use color slot 2.

the tailtip, chest patch, and face patch are always white!

CALICOS

calicos have two types of markings: the base harlequin (tied to the coat), and calico speckles (tied to marking slot 1). both can pass down.

MAINE COONS

there are five parts to the maine coon markings. all but the fifth are linked to the coat.

1: the always-cherry mottled overlay covers their entire body. this mottling looks stripey on tails.
2: their legs are white and use color slot 2.
3: their jowls use color slot 5. this can never overlap with other jowl markings - in these scenarios, it lets the real coat show through.
4: the upper half of their chest is always white.
5: some maine coons come with white face patches also using color slot 5 - these are linked to marking slot 2 and thus inherit separately from all other markings.

ORANGE SHORTHAIRS

orange shorthair markings are tied to their coat.

they have a musty overlay around everywhere but their head. this covers most markings, but not calico speckles, so marking slot 1 markings will likely all display above it.

they also have cream socks and jowls which use color slot 2.

SIAMESES

siameses have colorpoint markings based on color slot 2 which are tied to the coat.

there is an issue with all siamese ears where they get always-black tips around the inner ear. this even appears in cats with siamese ears but otherwise no links to siameses.
